Art-house The Sketchbook Project 2011

I enjoy producing images with paint and brush, but I have fell in love with screen printing recently during my time at university completing my Illustration course. I don't sketch very often as I use my sketchbooks for mainly notes and roughs, but I felt this could give me some inspiration and motivation. I love drinking guinness, eating sandwiches and I really want to travel around America.

Signs (Hexagons)

Followed on from the screen printed book of signs.

This demonstrates the construction of the sign with hexagons, the purpose of reflection at night time with oncoming cars needing road information.

The static nature of the coastguard as they wait for a vital moment when a problem arises. The mundane or insignificant things in ones day might become something to talk about while they wait and observe the coast. Colour is the key.

An Ordinary Sign

A sign has become a vital tool within our society, road signs that control, warn and instruct us through a particular journey in our day. It is a system by which we live, a set of rules we have inherited and adhere to; therefore these rules can be broken. Each sign has a different size, shape or colour and set of instructions and will give off an emotion when you confront the sign during your journey, if you were to change any of these factors how would your emotion and understanding of that sign change.

This is why McDonalds is the most recognizable brand in the world, 44 McDonalds in the space of the county of Kent, southeast of England.

Being an ex-employee I know what its like to work there, to mix with other employees from different ethnic and social backgrounds and how much of a family it can become. I believe that within any chain of restaurants or shops with McDonalds being the biggest of them all it can blur the customer from the personality of a store and its individuals. I wanted to represent the personality of each store and consequently each employee, thus presenting a contrast between a corporate brand and individual personality.
